Hi everyone,

My ass#3 is finally ready for some feedback. I know it is really last minute but any feedback would be great. Also haven’t quite finished step 2 as i am quite unsure of how to do this step so any advice would be great.

KCQs of Financial Reports

When I first started looking over my company’s financial reports I admit I was very overwhelmed. There was so much information that I didn’t know what exactly it was that I was looking for; there was information everywhere. After speaking with my lecturer I had got a little bit of insight into what the financial report was all about, however, there is still a lot which I do not understand. When looking over each of the financial reports for the last 3 to 4 years there is one thing in particular which I have noticed; that was that SRG have definitely had there ups and downs, and after 2 years of the decrease in profit there have turned themselves around and have started to increase in profits made. It can also be seen throughout the year of 2015, with not only transitioning into the unified company they are today, SRG have undertaken and completed many objectives which they had set in 2014, like setting a new senior management team; review of the teams and storing leadership has been installed across all areas. Another one of their objectives which was completed was to institute more rigorous and disciplines approach to project reviews and cost controls with greater transparency.

Once focusing more on the financial side of the statements, I have come across many issues which I am finding hard to understand. One of which was why are there number in brackets. After some research and also trial and error of calculations, I had found out that the numbers in brackets means that it is being taken away in the equation instead of being added to find the total amount. Although there are many questions, I have tired to narrow down to below:

• What does amortisation mean?

• What is a parent entity ?

• Is there a difference in the statement of changes in equity and the consolidated statement of changes in Equity

About Me

So I probably should have written this post a couple of weeks ago when I first started my blog. But I guess it’s better late than never right?

So this post is pretty much just about me and what I like to do in my spare time. So here goes nothing…

My name is Mikiellie Newman, I am 17 years old (turning 18 this year) and have lived in Rockhampton my whole life. As you could probably tell by my age I graduated grade 12 at the Rockhampton Grammar School in 2015. This being my first year of University, to say I was terrified would be an understatement. I had so many thoughts running through my head before I started. I had absolutely no idea of what the work load was like and how much different it is to high school. I am studying a Bachelor of Business (full time) internally at the CQU Rockhampton Campus. My majors which I have chosen is Marketing and Human Resource Management. The reasoning behind choosing those two majors was simply because of my school experience. During my final two years of high school I studied business and in these two years we learned about my different areas of business; but the two which intrigued me the most was marketing and HR management. Apart from university my life at the moment consists of trying to find and work-study-life balance. I love spending time with family, friends and my boyfriend. I am a dancer and cheerleader at DDS in Rockhampton. Apart from spending time with family, dancing, and cheerleading, I also work at Woolworths Northside Plaza as a Casual Cashier. I know why would anyone want to work there; I sometimes question myself about that, but at the end of the day it is a source of income. One which I am sure everyone is in need of.

Anyways enough about me. I am very much looking forward to making heaps of new friends and completing my degree. Please feel free to leave a comment below introducing yourself and ask any questions you may like to ask.

I hope you are having a great day and looking forward to hearing from you all very soon.
Thanks,

Mikiellie 🙂

The Coming of ‘My Company’

As part of the assessment for ACCT11059- Assignment 1, we have been each assigned a company from all over the world. The companies are from a range of industries. The company which was selected for me was SRG Limited. SRG Limited is an Australian owned company which provides mining, building and civil services not only in Australia but all over the world.

One known as BBR, founded in 1961, this company has had involvements in many iconic structures all around the world. One of their early involvements being the Sydney Tower in 1976-78 to one of their latest involvements in the Roseries Dam in the Republic of Sudan in 2014. Joining forces, Structural Systems Group and ROCK Australia, in November 2014, SRG Limited was formed. Although SRG Limited was only formed in 2014, the previous companies have had over 50 years of experience in this industry.

I have attached a link to a video for all who wants to know about this company below. It is nearly a 7 minute video, however, if you want to get to know my company better than what have told you it would definitely be worth a watch.

Their vision is very straight forward- “Making the complex, simple”.

SRG prides themselves on their values which help to uphold the company and shape it into who they are. Their values include (Srglimited, 2016):

  • Zero Harm – We have each other’s back
  • Innovation – We think outside the box
  • Integrity – We do the right thing all the time
  • Team Work – We accomplish everything together
  • Excellence – Anywhere, Anytime, Any Task

I am very much looking forward to exploring my company throughout this assignment  and the next ad looking forward to also reading about your company also.

Lastly but not least big thank you again for visiting my blog, means a lot, feel free to comment and ask any questions.

Thanks!

Mikiellie 🙂
